Went to California for a wedding, and I thought I should get some Mexican food. First stop was a long-time favorite; Carillos. Years ago, this strip mall was old and outdated, so when I showed up and it was nice looking, I was scared that the food changed, but it didn’t. It was excellent as usual. I was driving to my sisters and noticed this stand on the side of the road. Their food was off the charts. The tortillas were made to order and the tacos de al pastor, were so good and plenty of meat.

So, this floor was covered in carpet yesterday. We did not refinish it. We buffed it with a 120 grit and the a 180 grit and dropped two coats of Pallman Gold water based polyurethane in a satin sheen. It looks like a DIYr refinished this floor last time. Just finished up this 650 foot 3/4” x 3-1/4” #1 common Red Oak floor. It was a prefinished with aluminum oxide. That finish is tough, and I didn’t have my diamond disks for the multi disk buffer plate or the edger, so it didn’t give it up easy. So this 3/4” x 1-1/2” #1 and #2 common red oak floor was “Ruff” as in dog urin stains everywhere. The client wanted to go natural, but I advised them to go with a light brown stain to help hide the pet stains. The color is 1 part Duraseal Antique Brown and 2 parts Neutral. Because we live in northern Idaho, houses are often framed in the snow and rain which leaves the sub floor rough and dirty. We are installing a pre finished 3/4” x 2-1/4” Rustic Maple floor, so we prepare the subfloor by sanding it with 12 grit sand paper. We then add a vapor barrier and then we install the floor. When we refinished this maple floor, we had to tint the filler to a gray color because a lot of the gaps in the floor have been filled in with 110 years of life and it’s a grayish/blackish color. Normally, we would use a light colored filler close to the color of maple, but it would really stand out. #killingitatclassicwoodfloors
